Pinkeye's Award-Winning Coca-Cola Exhibition: A Design Masterpiece

Exploring the Innovative Design Approach of Pinkeye in Celebrating 125 Years of Coca-Cola

Pinkeye, a renowned design team, created an immersive exhibition for Coca-Cola's 125th anniversary, showcasing the brand's design evolution. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and challenges faced during the creation of this award-winning design.

The inspiration for the exhibition design came from the simplicity of the Coca-Cola logo and the evolution of the Coca-Cola bottle, as depicted in the poster announcing the exhibition. Pinkeye aimed to recreate this simplicity within the exhibition space, confronting visitors with only fragments of the Coca-Cola logo throughout the tour. This approach highlighted the logo as one of the world's most recognized symbols.

The exhibition, spanning 450m2, was designed to showcase Coca-Cola's rich history as a design innovator. The challenge was to create a coherent unity from a vast array of diverse artefacts collected by Coca-Cola. Pinkeye achieved this by establishing a clear message track and translating it into spatial form. Upon entering the main space, visitors were met with a gigantic Coca-Cola logo that seemed to fill the entire room, breaking up into smaller, intricate but always recognizable fragments as they explored the exhibition.

The exhibition was brought to life by projecting an image onto the white walls, ceiling, and floor of the exhibition space, then painting and stickering over it. Five main themes were connected literally by a red line, guiding people throughout the key content. The design team also included interactive games about Coca-Cola on several iPads, offering a fresh and challenging show about what Coca-Cola has meant to designers and consumers over the past 125 years.

The project, which lasted from August to November 2011, was not without its challenges. The idea was to keep all items hidden when entering the space and reveal them step by step. The positioning of the separation walls and furniture had to allow for the logo and title to be projected and painted on them. Despite these challenges, Pinkeye successfully created an engaging and immersive exhibition that ran from December 2011 until February 2012.

This innovative design by Pinkeye was recognized with the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.

In conclusion, Pinkeye's design for the Coca-Cola 125th anniversary exhibition is a testament to the team's innovative approach and ability to create engaging, immersive experiences. The exhibition not only celebrated Coca-Cola's rich design history but also showcased the power of design in creating memorable experiences.
